As God was preparing to deliver the nation of Israel from the Assyrians He not only speaks of delivering them but restoring them. Restoration is a beautiful and joyous thing. The restoration comes from Jesus being the sacrifice that was needed not only for the restoration of Israel but for each of us. A thing of joy and beauty.

In the midst of Israel's captivity God promised a harvest of joy. Aren't you glad that even when our lives are going through difficult times God has promised us a harvest of joy--and the Joy of the Lord is our strength.

In the Old Testament, it was much easier for a man to get a divorce than a woman. A man if not pleased with his wife could give her a certificate of divorce. In Isaiah chapter 50, Isaiah asks the question, "where is your certificate of divorce?" Of course the answer was that Israel did not have one. God has never forsaken his people--his people have left Him.

Isaiah 49 is written to remind his people that they would never be forgotten. It also reminds us that we have been chosen by God and are very precious in His sight. Isaiah also reminds us that it is God's desire that all mankind know that Jehovah God is our savior, Redeemer, and God.

In Isaiah chapters 47 and 48 we see some exciting as well as terrifying statements. We see how the mighty have fallen and what brought about that fall. We also see the refining that God does with his people. We will apparently lose some battles but we will win the war.

ah continues to compare the idols of Babylon with the true God of Israel. Those idols bring burdens; God brings rest. Those idols have to be carried; God carries us. Idols can not help us to achieve our purpose; God fulfills our purpose. What is the smart thing to do?

In the Sovereignty of God we discover that God can use anything and and anyone. He calls Cyrus his servant and his anointed one. Not only did He use Cyrus, he named him over a 100 years before he was born!

After Isaiah tells us in chapter 43 there was a need for forgiveness, he shares that God would forgiven them. He then tells us He would not only forgive but would pour His Spirit out on HIs people. Then he shows a great contrast between the power and uniqueness of God and the foolishness and worthlessness of idols.

The Jews were the ones God entrusted the Old Testament to. They were to be witnesses of all the great things God had done. Not only witnesses, but sharing those testimonies with all they come in contact with. Unfortunately they failed miserably. In the New Testament God gives the church the responsibility to be the light of the world. For what purpose? To bring glory to God and to build His church.

After Isaiah had shared the message of spiritual sight and hearing, he reminds the people of God's love, redemption, and care. He reminds us that the Eternal God will never leave us nor forsake us.

God used Isaiah to speak to the nations of Israel but they had become spiritually blind and deaf. God was speaking but they couldn't hear him. They insisted in walking in darkness and did not listen to God's warning. Is God warning us today? Are we listening? Can we hear?

In Isaiah 42 we have some great contrast: God compared to Idols; a loving God, a gracious, God, a just God, a mighty warrior God. Each of these contrast stands out as great scriptural truths. Let's look and compare.

God's love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and grace are often talked about and they certainly should be. But we often neglect to remember that Jesus is the righteous judge. With His godly knowledge and wisdom, He is the only one qualified to serve as a judge that not only knows the known facts He can judge the intent of the heart.

Isaiah has been sharing not only about the time he was living in, but also the near future and the distant future. He lays out the facts as if ready to present to a jury for them to make the decision. The NLT says in 41:1, "the court is ready for your case." What is your verdict?

After prophesying the fall of Israel and the dangers of trusting in the strength and abilities of man, God promises comfort, restoration, and rescue through trusting in God and later on the Messiah.

Isaiah uses the language of farming to depict the various seasons. The bible tells that everything has a season. We are in the season of planting and harvest but it appears that this season is about to come to a close and then the season of judgment.

Isaiah promised a stone--a tested stone and a sure foundation. Each of those prophecies were fulfilled in Christ Jesus. He is a proven cornerstone. He is the only foundation that will withstand the storms of life.
