The Journey From A Fan to A Follower
Preached to: High School Students
Speaker: Pastor Amanda Hahn
At Amplify High this week, we concluded our journey through the book of Colossians by exploring what it means to move from being a fan of Christ to becoming a fully committed follower.
Key takeaways:
Let God’s Word Dwell in You – True transformation happens when we internalize Scripture and allow it to shape our lives.
Worship as a Lifestyle – Worship isn’t just singing; it’s reflected in every action, attitude, and choice we make.
Do Everything for Christ – Every word, deed, and interaction should point others to Jesus and reflect His love.
As we wrapped up, students were challenged to examine their faith, take intentional steps toward deeper commitment, and let their lives reflect Christ’s love to the world. Let’s continue cheering them on in this journey!
Keep up with all that’s going on at Amplify Youth, including dates, times, sign-ups, and forms, on our main page.

Night 1: Moving from Fan to Follower
Opening Question: What’s the difference between being a fan of something and being fully committed to it?
Follow-Up: How can we move from being fans of Jesus (just admiring Him) to true followers (living for Him daily)?
Activity: Share one way each family member can take a step closer to following Jesus this week.
Night 2: Worship as a Lifestyle
Opening Question: What does worship mean to you?
Follow-Up: Besides singing, how can we worship God in our daily lives? (Examples: being kind, serving others, or showing gratitude.)
Activity: As a family, plan one act of worship for this week—serving someone in need, praying together, or writing a thank-you note to encourage someone.
Night 3: Representing Jesus in All We Do
Opening Question: If someone who doesn’t know Jesus watched your actions today, what would they learn about Him?
Follow-Up: How can we make sure our words, actions, and attitudes reflect Christ, even when life is hard?
Activity: Set a goal for the week as a family—choose one way to represent Jesus better at home, at school, or in the community.

Introduction:
Open with the idea of being a "fan" versus a "follower." Fans admire from a distance; followers are fully committed.
Share a personal story or analogy about fandom (e.g., sports, music) to set the tone.
Transition: In Colossians 3:16-17, Paul challenges us to move beyond admiration to a life transformed by Christ.
1. Let God’s Word Dwell in You (Colossians 3:16a)
Scripture: “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.”
Key Point: A fan hears the Word; a follower allows it to transform their heart and actions.
Application: Prioritize daily Bible reading and prayer, asking God to reveal His truth in your life.
2. Worship as a Lifestyle (Colossians 3:16b)
Scripture: “Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.”
Key Point: Worship is not just music but an ongoing reflection of love for God in how we live.
Application: Live worshipfully by serving others, showing kindness, and making God the center of every decision.
3. Do Everything for Christ (Colossians 3:17)
Scripture: “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus.”
Key Point: Followers intentionally represent Jesus in every aspect of life—words, actions, and attitudes.
Application: Ask yourself, “Does this reflect Jesus?” in your conversations, choices, and relationships.
Conclusion:
Reiterate: Being a fan of Jesus is easy, but being a follower requires commitment, transformation, and daily worship.
Challenge: Are you ready to take the next step in your journey—from fan to follower?
Call to Action: Pray and reflect on how your life can better reflect Jesus this week. Offer altar time for surrender and recommitment.

Colossians 3:16-17 (NLT)
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
