Be A Bringer: Go & Make Your Mark

Preached to: High School Students

Sharing Your Story: A Powerful Way to Witness

This week's message reminded us that our personal stories are powerful tools in God’s hands. When we share what Jesus has done in our lives, we help others see His goodness in a real and relatable way. The sermon highlighted how simple testimony—like the man in Mark 5 who shared what Jesus did for him—can make a big impact. We were encouraged not to let fear or perfectionism hold us back, but to speak from the heart. Your story matters, and God wants to use it to draw others to Him.

    • Who’s someone you know that needs to hear about what God’s done in your life?

  • 🟡 STARTER (Hook the Heart)
Have you ever had something so good happen that you had to tell someone about it? Whether it was a concert, a funny story, or your favorite food—it just couldn’t be kept to yourself. That’s what happens when Jesus changes your life—your story becomes something worth sharing.

🟢 MESSAGE (What the Bible Says)
In Mark 5:18–20, after Jesus sets a man free from a life of torment, the man begs to go with Him. But Jesus tells him, “Go home to your family and tell them everything the Lord has done for you.” Instead of becoming a follower in the traditional sense, Jesus sends him out as a storyteller—someone whose testimony would impact a whole region. The Bible is full of people whose lives were changed by Jesus, and their first response was to tell someone.

🔵 DIG DEEPER (Why It Matters)
Your story might not seem dramatic, but it’s powerful—because it’s real. God can use your highs, your struggles, and your transformation to reach others. The enemy wants us to stay silent with lies like, “No one wants to hear your story,” or “You don’t have the right words.” But scripture shows us that our experience with Jesus is the very thing that makes our story worth sharing.

🟠 APPLICATION (What to Do With It)
Start by writing down your story in 3 parts: life before Jesus, how you met Him, and how your life has changed since. Practice sharing it with someone you trust. Then, pray for one person you can tell this week. Remember—God doesn’t need you to be perfect; He just needs you to be willing. Your story could be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

  • Matthew 28:16–20 (NLT)

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

    John 4 (NLT)

    Luke 4:31–36 (NLT)

31 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day.
32 There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority.
33 Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon—an evil spirit—began shouting at Jesus,
34 “Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
35 But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered.
At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.
36 Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him, and they flee at his command!”

    Luke 5:12–16 (NLT)

12 In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. “Lord,” he said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
14 Then Jesus instructed him not to tell anyone what had happened. He said, “Go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”
15 But despite Jesus’ instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases.
16 But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

    Luke 7:11–17 (NLT)

11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him.
12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her.
13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said.
14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”
15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.”
17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.

    Luke 8:26–39 (NLT)

26 So they arrived in the region of the Gerasenes, across the lake from Galilee.
27 As Jesus was climbing out of the boat, a man who was possessed by demons came out to meet him. For a long time he had been homeless and naked, living in the tombs outside the town.
28 As soon as he saw Jesus, he shrieked and fell down in front of him. Then he screamed, “Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Please, I beg you, don’t torture me!”
29 For Jesus had already commanded the evil spirit to come out of him. This spirit had often taken control of the man. Even when he was placed under guard and put in chains and shackles, he simply broke them and rushed out into the wilderness, completely under the demon’s power.
30 Jesus demanded, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, for he was filled with many demons.
31 The demons kept begging Jesus not to send them into the bottomless pit.
32 There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby, and the demons begged him to let them enter into the pigs. So Jesus gave them permission.
33 Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned.
34 When the herdsmen saw it, they fled to the nearby town and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran.
35 People rushed out to see what had happened. A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been freed from the demons. He was sitting at Jesus’ feet, fully clothed and perfectly sane; and they were all afraid.
36 Then those who had seen what happened told the others how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
37 And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them. So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake.
38 The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying,
39 “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.”
So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.
