Why Is God Allowing This? Why Not?

I often hear "Why is God allowing this to happen?" My response might be: "Why not?" It seems we have departed from Him, not Him departing from us. Why should He protect us, lead us, guide us, and perform miracles for us when we do not actively serve Him?
